Read 1,000 Books! 

Welcome to The Laurel Community Learning Center's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. We know that the more often young children hear books read to them, the more prepared they are to begin reading on their own when they start kindergarten. 

You are your child's first and best teacher, and when you talk, sing, read, write, and play together at home, you are building your child's vocabulary and language skills, and preparing him or her to begin reading independently. 

How can we read 1,000 Books?

It's easier than you think!

Put reading first! Spend 20 minutes a day reading to your child. Make it fun and exciting, and spend rewarding time together.

If you read just 1 book a day, you will have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books in just three years!

This program is designed for kids age 0 to 4 to encourage life-long reading habits. Once you've earned enough points you'll receive a completion certificate you can print and share!

This program is designed for kids age 5 to 12 to encourage life-long reading habits.  You will earn 1 point for every page you read.  Every 50 points will get your name added to the Final Prize Drawing.  Once you've earned enough points you'll receive a completion certificate you can print and share!

This program is designed for teens age 13 to 17 to encourage life-long reading habits. Once you've earned enough points you'll receive a completion certificate you can print and share!

This program is designed for adults age 18 & up to encourage life-long reading habits. Once you've earned enough points you'll receive a completion certificate you can print and share!
